La storia

La Tenuta di Squarano si trova nel cuore della Valpolicella più Classica, su un colle circondato da cipressi. Qui i Marchesi Fumanelli iniziarono a produrre uva e vini pregiati dal 1470 su resti di antichi impianti di epoca romana. Numerose sono le iscrizioni e manufatti archeologici nella villa, fra le quali le vestigia di un tempio dedicato alla dea Flora nel parco.
Da qui deriva probabilmente il nome di San Floriano dato alla Pieve Millenaria e al villaggio. E’ verosimile che anche la villa del Re Berengario nel X Secolo si trovasse sulla sommità del colle di Squarano.

Dal 1998 le antiche cantine dopo un attento restauro sono tornate ad ospitare nelle botti di rovere l’invecchiamento dei vini classici della Valpolicella.

The History of the Marchesi Fumanelli’ Vineyard

The Family Marchesi Fumanelli have been wine makers in the Valpolicella since 1440. The ancient estate of  “ Squarano “ has been in the family since that time; it is located on a hill overlooking the valley and surrounded by vineyards. The Villa, built by the noble Marquis Fumanelli family in the seventeenth century, preserves architectural fragments and inscriptions from a temple dedicated to the Goddess Flora, built here more than a thousand years earlier at the same time the Romans started planting the first vineyards.
Nowadays 58 hectares of Vineyards have remained.
The Fumanelli Vineyards produce a high quality wine in the Valpolicella Valley and only the finest 15% of the harvested grapes in this large Estate are used to produce our Wine, which gives us a vast amount of vines and grapes to choose from.
In the cellars from the 1600 ‘s restored in 1997 our wine is produced with the most modern technology and equipment available.
The latest production of Wine dates back to 1927 and in our private collection we have a large number of bottles from the beginning of the 1900’s.
The wine, which best represents our company is  “Squarano “, a classic superior Valpolicella matured in French Barrels.

The Estate, thanks to its carefully tended vineyards and expert work in the Cellars, offers at the moment the following wines, in memory of the traditions and as an expression of the territory:
